RTL the " Radio CAROLINE " for French lovers of 60s, 70s and 80s music
RTL is a French commercial radio network owned by the RTL Group. Founded in 1933 as Radio Luxembourg, it broadcast from outside of France until 1981 because only public stations had been allowed until then. It is a general-interest, news, talk and music station, broadcasting nationally ("category E" as classified by the CSA) in France, Francophone Belgium, and Luxembourg. Until 2022, RTL was also broadcast on long wave frequency 234 kHz from Beidweiler which could be picked up in large parts of the continent. It has a sister station called Bel RTL tailored for the French Community of Belgium. As of 2018, RTL is France's most popular radio station with an average of 6.4 million daily listeners that year.[1]
Georges Lang has hosted the RTL radio show "Les Nocturnes" since 1973
The facility uses a directional antenna consisting of three 290-meter (950 ft) tall guyed masts, each equipped with a cage antenna. The output of this array is mostly directed toward Paris. When the site was inaugurated in 1972 it operated with a transmission power of 1400 kilowatts, which was pushed up to 2000 kW in 1974, making it one of the most powerful broadcasting stations in the world at the time.
My favorite radio is La collection Georges Lang, the French baby Boomers' love it !!!

When RTL was on Longwave on 243 kHz
In October 2022, RTL announced it would end its longwave broadcasts on January 1, 2023, in an effort to reduce the company's energy use
RTL has operated on longwave since 1933, broadcasting until 1966 as Radio Luxembourg from transmitters in Junglinster. In 1966, it rebranded as RTL, and in 1972 the station began broadcasting from a new site at Beidweiler with three 290-meter-high transmission towers.
RADIO
Luxembourg 208
was in English with great music and DJs
It was a pleasure at night to listen to this radio on MW here in Paris in the 70s
RTL in English
Under the slogan “208 - The station of the stars”, Radio Luxembourg gradually won back its pre-war audience.
A British company, Radio Luxembourg (London) Ltd based at 38 Hertford Street, London W1, controlled the program content and sold the advertising time.
The programs were partly produced at the Villa Louvigny and partly recorded on tape in London, because the British authorities continued to refuse, until 1980, to establish a telephone connection between the studios and Luxembourg.
Radio Luxembourg enjoyed a de facto monopoly as the English-language commercial radio station heard in the United Kingdom.
At its peak, Radio Luxembourg, known as “the Great 208” and “the station of the stars”, reached 78 million nightly listeners.
