On SW they are a lot of radio stations transmitting from many places in the world on many bands, frequencies and many languages

BCL Broadcast Listener

The BCL is a broadcast listener who, in addition to long and medium wave, is mainly on short wave. He listens to the programmes of broadcast stations as far away as possible and sends them reception reports as detailed as possible, which are confirmed by the stations with QSL cards. In the past, the only way to do this was by post. Today, contact is made with the radio stations via their website, their Facebook presence or via e-mail. Even in the age of e-QSL, the majority of collectors still prefer a traditional QSL card, so returning the QSL by letter post has remained common. With the drastic withdrawal of broadcasting from long, medium and short wave, the number of stations has declined sharply. More and more small stations are still QRV, but compared to earlier times, they can now be received with less interference. It has become quiet in the broadcasting bands, the range of stations has become manageable. Many of the remaining foreign stations have maintained an additional German-language programme. Another institution of the BCL scene has also remained: They still exist, the hard-core radio listeners who have joined together in DX clubs like ADDX, Assoziation deutschsprachiger Kurzwellenhörer e. V., since 1967.

Information from 3Y0K expedition to Bouvet in 2026 by F5PSI Gaby

… information from 3Y0K, expedition to Bouvet in 2026 …

Ranked as the 10th most searched DXCC entity by ClubLog, this inhospitable volcanic island, a Norwegian dependency in the South Atlantic Ocean (the "Southern" Ocean), is the most isolated uninhabited island on our planet. Bouvet (Bouvetøya in Norwegian) is the area claimed by Norway in the heart of the best-known polar regions. The island has the status of a nature reserve. It is located 2,500 km southwest of South Africa, 1,600 km from Gough Island, and 1,700 km north of the coast of Queen Maud Land. The island is not part of Antarctica, which is defined as the area south of the 60th parallel south. The island measures only 49 km² and is almost entirely covered in ice (90%). Steep cliffs surrounding it make access to land extremely difficult. Olavtoppen, reaching an altitude of 780 meters, is the island's highest peak. The history of Bouvet Island can be found here: https://www.npolar.no/en/themes/bouvetoya/

Our friend Bernie W3UR, creator and editor of the newsletters "The Daily DX" and "The Weekly DX" and a subscriber to "La Compil' DX," has just informed us of this news received from the 3Y0K team, which will be embarking on an expedition to Bouvet in 2026:

"The 3Y0K team is pleased to announce the arrival of a strong medical and support team of 6 people for our 2026 Bouvet expedition! All have excellent experience in the fields of medicine, security, evacuations, and emergency situations." They will perform these functions during the camp setup and participate in its construction and maintenance. They will also ensure the expedition's safety for everyone. This includes analyzing weather forecasts and preparing the team in case of storms and setting up shelters.

Shawn is our team doctor. An emergency medicine specialist, he is originally from the United States.

He is assisted by Julia, currently the medical officer at Neumayer III Station in Antarctica, as well as another Swiss doctor, HB9FKF, who is also joining us.

Shawn is supported by his brother Neil, a scientist with the Alaska National Park Service.

Peter, who has already participated in an expedition to Bouvet, is in charge of search and rescue operations.

He has extensive experience leading expeditions in remote regions such as the Arctic and Antarctic.

Birgir is a seasoned expedition guide with over 15 years of experience in extreme environments, specializing in glacial terrain and harsh winter conditions.

The team is intensifying its preparations for departure from Cape Town in February. In two weeks, we

plan to make the next installments, totaling $650,000. At that point, we will have

invested approximately $1,650,000 in the expedition. We are still seeking donations to complete

our budget.

We also need two additional operators. If you want this

expedition to be a success, please support us. Our goal is to raise $60,000 before

departure. You can help by donating to donate@3y0k.com. We sincerely thank

all our donors for their support!
